When are diamond rings still diamond rings? When they are man made or synthetic diamond rings of course. Was that as dumb question with a dumber answer? Well that really depends where you stand on the issue of lab created diamond rings. Man made diamonds have been around in quantity for several decades now and still have not got the recognition they deserve. They are in fact real diamonds, made from carbon, yet still called synthetic or simulated. Yes they are man made, but if we can do it better and quicker than nature, why not.

To be honest the prejudice against lab created diamond rings comes from mainly 2 directions. The first is from the cartels that mine and control the price of natural diamonds. They are fearful of their lucrative monopoly coming to an end. But seeing as that would also save the lives of abused miners, child labor and environmental scarring, is that so bad? That is quite a harsh view, but with the recent conflict diamonds controversy it is becoming a real burning issue across the international community. Lab grown diamonds have no such baggage

The second objection is from those who view lab created diamond rings as inferior and not real diamonds. These of course these are the same people who have paid over the odds for diamond jewelry and parted company with thousands and thousands of dollars.  Maybe they just do not like people getting cheap diamonds. But I think what we have is diamond snobbery. Tell them that cultured diamonds rings can actually be purer than theirs and you will be told that that is what makes them unique. You really can’t win sometimes.

So I say leave them to it. You just go out and pay about 40% less than them and own a beautiful lab created diamond engagement ring that will stand up for beauty against any natural piece any day of the week.
